PhagwaraPhagwara is the second main tehsil of Kapurthala District is separated from the main district. It is situated in the eastern direction of the city. Phagwara was founded by Shah Jahan. There is a historical Gurudwara Chouda Khuh Sahib which is related to Guru Sri Hargobind Singh Ji. There is also Vishwakarma Temple, Mansa Devi Mandir & mosque built during Mughal Rule. It is the main industrial hub of Kapurthala District. Due to its prime location on Sher-Shah-Suri Marg (G.T.Road) and near the main railway link of Amritsar-Delhi, Phagwara's industry developed faster than Kapurthala. It has main industrial units of Sugar, Cloth, Electrical accessories, Machine Tools, Agricultural Implements & Rubber. Phagwara has many Ramgarhia educational institutions. Because of a large number of Punjabis who have gone abroad from the area, Phagwara has become a great trading centre and market for cloth and ethnic clothes.
The Mela of Phalani is celebrated every year with joy in Phagwara. Phagwara falls on the Delhi Jammu line and is connected by the large number of trains. There is a vast network of bus services of Punjab, Himachal, Delhi , Haryana, Pepsu, Chandigarh, Rajasthan State Roadways, apart from private operators.
